The Gist of GIS
Mapping is the most enticing graphical presentation, but one of the most difficult to generate. Fortunately there will be tools that allow web managers to have their content presented in maps with or without doing mashups/integration with Google Earth/Google Maps/Microsoft Live maps/Yahoo Maps.
Understanding that metadata should be included with all web pages/items is often viewed as a hassle with few positive advantages. But with applications like GIS mapping, the question should be whether any item shouldn't include Dublin Core, industry-based standard metadata and latitude/longitude. Based on both having a well constructed web site with GIS tools and having web pages and RSS newsfeeds with good metadata, mapping should be a piece of cake and allows you or others to make mashups with other well constructed web sites and services.
